The Bio
Aston Martin’s original foray into Formula 1 – over half a century ago – was a massive disappointment. The DBR4 was first built and tested in 1957 but only found its way into the sport in 1959, as Aston Martin had been focusing on Le Mans. The car was outdated and outpaced by its rivals. The team’s best result was a sixth place and thus they finished the season without a single point.
1960 saw a new car in the shape of the DBR5 but, with a heavy engine in the front, it was comfortably outclassed by the more commonplace rear-engined cars. After a string of poor results, Aston Martin pulled out of F1 without ever having scored a point.
The Aston Martin team of the 2020s will be a different beast, however. This F1 squad are no strangers to success, having won in their original guise of Jordan and most recently as Racing Point in 2020. Renowned for their ability to punch above their weight, and now with a two-time champion leading their driver line-up – and F1’s most famous designer coming onboard in 2025 – Aston Martin are very much a team to watch…
