The Bio

Red Bull sponsored Sauber from 1995 to 2004 but decided to buy a team of its own when the Jaguar team were put up for sale. A solid first season was followed by the acquisition of star designer Adrian Newey. In the following three years, Red Bull made steady progress with mid-table finishes and one podium each season. But 2009 was where things really picked up.

Sebastian Vettel joined from junior team Toro Rosso and won only his third grand prix with the team. Mark Webber would also take his maiden win and the pair would combine to claim six victories and second in the Constructors’ Championship, behind the fairy tale of Brawn GP.

Then came the era of Red Bull dominance. Vettel took the team to four consecutive title doubles, even winning a record nine races in a row at the end of the 2013 season and becoming the sport’s youngest quadruple champion. The hybrid era brought an end to the dominance and, after one year, an end to the Vettel-Red Bull partnership as he left for a new challenge at Ferrari after being beaten by the latest academy graduate, Daniel Ricciardo.

Red Bull remained at the sharp end of the grid and usually grabbed a couple of wins each season but were never true championship contenders until 2021, when – after a season-long, tempestuous battle with Mercedes – poster boy Max Verstappen claimed his first drivers’ title in controversial circumstances at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

He strolled to far more comfortable second and third titles in 2022 and 2023, as he and Red Bull began a spell of dominance.
